The smallest independent country in South America, Suriname is 93 percent made up of rainforest, making it the greenest country on earth. In this pristine, natural paradise on the Atlantic Ocean and on the border with Guyana, Brazil and French Guyana, you will find a diverse flora and fauna in breathtaking landscapes. A round trip through Suriname is therefore optimal for nature enthusiasts who want to immerse themselves in the exotic regions of the untouched rainforest and offers a vacation full of unique experiences.
Due to the country's colonial history, the population of Suriname is multicultural: people here descend from ancestors from India, Lebanon, Java, China and Europe live here. In addition, there are various indigenous tribes with their own language. The interior, for example, is home to the Tiriyó and the Maroons. The Tiriyó tribe lives in small forest settlements in southern Suriname and northern Brazil. The largest village of the Tiriyó, Kwamalasamuto, is located 500 kilometers from the nearest town in complete isolation in the middle of the rainforest. The Maroons, in turn, are descendants of former slaves from Africa who were forced to work on the country's plantations during Dutch colonial rule in Suriname. Today they live in the interior of the rainforest. Their identity is still based on their West African origins.
On our Suriname trip, you can expect numerous sights and tours through the primary rainforest, where you can see exotic animals like jaguars, sloths or tapirs as well as caimans, capybaras, the largest rodents in the world, different species of monkeys and a large number of colorful birds. Also, experience the Guyana dolphins in the wild in the Suriname River. By boat and by air, you will dive deep into Suriname's Amazon region, which is not accessible by road due to dense forestation.
Direct entry to Suriname is possible via flights from Amsterdam. In advance, only a so-called e-visa must be applied for online. With our sustainable Suriname round trip, we directly support the people of the Tiriyó tribe and at the same time contribute to the protection of the unique rainforest.
