The second day of your trip begins with a fascinating sightseeing tour. Your first destination is Angkor Wat. It took about 30 years to build and today it shows some of the most beautiful examples of Khmer and Hindu art. Angkor Wat is also home to the longest continuous bas-relief in the world, which adorns the outer gallery along its entire length and provides insights into the history of Hindu mythology. Angkor Wat was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1972 along with the rest of Angkor.

Afterwards you will continue to Angkor Thom. The 10 km² large former city is surrounded by an eight meter high wall and a 100 m wide ditch. In the centre of Angkor Thom, you will find some of the most important and certainly the most visited temple complexes such as Bayon, Baphuon, the Terrace of the Leper King, the Elephant Terrace, and Phimeanacas.

You can make further discoveries by visiting the impressive Prasat Kravan temple from the 10th century. Marvel at the ingenious construction and the story told by the fairly well preserved reliefs. Afterwards you will explore Banteay Kdei and Sras Srang before you reach the famous Ta Prohm Temple. Along with Angkor Wat and Angkor Thom, this former temple is one of the most important sights of Angkor. Less famous for its well-preserved structure than for the interplay of massive tree roots and temple ruins, Ta Prohm offers many fantastic photo opportunities. Built in the 12th century and only discovered in the last decade, archaeologists have decided not to free this temple from its massive roots in order to show visitors how the temples of Angkor were back then.

Away from the tourist crowds, today we will cycle through a beautiful landscape past local villages. You will have the opportunity to get in touch with the local people and take part in their daily life. Around 2 PM you will return to the hotel.

After the rich breakfast at the hotel, we invite you to visit the temples of Beng Mealea and Banteay Srei. Beng Mealea appeals to visitors who like to explore overgrown temple buildings in lonely surroundings. Only the chirping of birds can be heard here, calling messages from tree to tree. Beng Mealea is an Angkor Wat-style temple located 40 km east of the main temple group. It is unrestored and still largely overgrown by jungle. You cannot visit it on flat paths like in Angkor.

On the way back you will visit the Banteay Srei, a temple from the 10th century. It shows the most difficult and finest stone carvings in Angkor. Triangular reliefs above the lintels tell stories and legends of the Hindu gods.

Today you will take a boat trip on the Tonle Sap, the largest inland lake in Southeast Asia. The lake is a unique natural phenomenon and Southeast Asia's largest inland waterway. Its size varies considerably depending on the season and can be four times larger during the rainy season than during the dry season. The lake's inhabitants live in houseboats and stilt huts and move within the Tonle Sap when the water level changes. A visit to the floating villages is a very special experience!

In the afternoon, you will continue your journey to Kompong Thom, where you will spend the night.

After breakfast you will travel to Phnom Penh by car.

On the way you will visit Sambor prei Kuk. Built in the 7th-13th century, the Sambor Prei Kuk Hindu temple complex is a silent witness to the Chenla era. The ruins consist of 179 temples and towers surrounded by lush trees, whose strong root systems firmly encircle the ancient temple walls. An unforgettable fusion of human construction and the power of nature.

Phnom Penh - Cambodia's modern capital and former pearl of Southeast Asia. The lively city is nestled on the banks of two mighty rivers - the Tonle Sap and the Mekong River. Recently, Phnom Penh has developed into one of Asia's hotspots and offers something for every taste.

First, visit the National Museum, which houses the largest collection of ancient Khmer art. The religious, archaeological, and artistic artifacts date from the 4th - 13th century and are an expression of the kingdom's cultural wealth.

The tour continues to the royal palace. Built in 1866, the Royal Palace is one of the more recent architectural highlights of Khmer history. The palace is located in the middle of a park on the riverbank and consists of several buildings. Only some of them are open to the public as the Royal Palace is still the residence of the reigning King, Norodom Sihamoni.

The Silver Pagoda - also called the Temple of the Emerald Buddha - is located on the grounds of the Royal Palace. The floor of the pagoda is covered with thousands of small silver tiles, a total of 5 tons of silver adorn the floor. The highlight of the pagoda, however, is the 90kg emerald Buddha. The Silver Pagoda is one of the few buildings that survived the destructive time of the Khmer Rouge intact.

Finally, you will learn about Cambodia's sad past by visiting the Tuol Sleng Museum, a former high school that was used by the Khmer regime for interrogation and torture.
