If you love nature and long for impressive landscapes, this day excursion will show you the untouched beauty of the volcano Etna in a 4x4 vehicle. Black lava fields, volcanic craters, and caves formed from lava are just some of the highlights you will experience on this extraordinary tour.
Today we recommend you to pack your hiking boots, because after a rich breakfast at the hotel you will be picked up by your guide and drive into the picturesque Valle del Bove. Situated on the south-eastern slope of the Etna volcano, your unforgettable adventure starts here. You will hike along the old lava streams until you reach the viewpoint at Mount Fontana. And the way is worth it: You will be spoiled with a great view of the valley.
Next, your tour will take you further to some side craters of the volcano and to the Sartorius mountains. These are old craters that were formed during the lava flow of 1865. You will hike along big lava bombs and let your gaze wander over the lush forest area, which is mainly dominated by birches. Afterwards, you will slowly descend and at one of the numerous craters you can enjoy a fascinating view of the Ionian coast, black lava fields, and the cities of Riposto and Taormina.
Afterwards, you will drive along the panoramic road of Mareneve to the former ski resort Piano Provenzana, which was completely destroyed by lava masses in 2002. Here you will take a short walk to the ruins of the Hotel Le Betulle and then drive to the Ragabo pine forest, where you will discover the Corruccio cave, formed by lava.
Around noon, you will be expected in a local restaurant with a delicious lunch (optional). You can relax with wine and local delicacies and enjoy the surrounding nature.
In the afternoon, after a good lunch, your itinerary will take you to the Gole dell'Alcantara gorge, which is about 20 meters deep and up to five meters wide, formed by the eponymous river - very impressive. If no water flows through the gorge, you can even hike through the spectacular formations.
After a full day, you will return to your hotel around 5:00 PM.
