Your guide will provide you with background information about the islands.
The 15 small volcanic Westman Islands are about five miles south of Iceland and are part of an undeveloped area. Except for the main island of Heimaey, the uninhabited Westman Islands are an insider tip that we recommend during your round trip! About ninety minutes from the capital Reykjavik, the ferry will take you to the islands’ countless puffins, rugged landscapes, and untouched nature.
You haven't seen Iceland until you've visited the Westman Islands. Iceland's best-kept secret is away from the tourist hot spots and shows off its most untouched nature.
You will board a ferry that will head toward Heimaey. It departs from Landeyjahöfn, in the south of Iceland. During the half-hour journey, you will already relish unforgettable views of the main island as it gets closer and closer. The main island survived probably the most significant volcanic eruption in 1973. The eruption enlarged the island by five square miles, and only one year later, the island became inhabited again. You can still see the traces of that time. Discover pure nature and observe puffins in their natural habitat and breeding grounds.
Get to know the uninhabited Westman Islands during an excursion boat adventure around the main island, Heimaey. Hidden caves, various birds, and with a bit of luck, gigantic whales will greet you on this 90-minute tour. An expert guide on board is happy to answer your questions and will tell you new background information about the untouched islands.
Your journey continues ashore, where you will visit the Klettshellur ("Cliff Cave"). The cave's unique acoustics make it a trendy destination for musicians.
All these impressions and new insights will enable you to spend the rest of your time on the island as you wish. This memorable day trip ends with a ferry ride back to Landeyjahöfn.
If you wish, you can also take your rental car on the ferry to explore areas you can't see from the boat. Contact us, and we will be happy to advise you.
