The only train in the Hwange National Park
In an open train wagon, go about 70 kilometres into Zimbabwe’s savannah. The nostalgic Elephant Express runs the same route as the historic Rovos Rail from Pretoria to Victoria Falls. This exciting train safari will take you up close and personal with Hwange National Park’s wildlife!
The safari train travels between Dete Railway and Ngamo Siding stations. The adventurous 70-kilometre journey takes about two hours, with breathtaking savannah views you’ll never forget. As the train chugs along, passengers can move around the carriage freely and indulge in a cool drink or two. Don’t forget to draw your eyes to the picturesque landscape, as views of the African wildlife roams all around you. Especially toward the end of the journey, you can expect lots of animal sightings in the vast Ngamo Plains.
Unlike an ordinary train, the Elephant Express can stop and go back and forth at any time, ensuring that you don’t miss the best panoramas or wildlife sightings. The best way to combine this experience is with an overnight stay at Camelthorn Lodge, Bomani Tented Lodge, or Nehimba Lodge in the southwest of the Hwange National Park. Our travel experts are happy to give you more information about the area! When you arrive, a transfer vehicle will take you to one of the lodges mentioned (approx. 10-15 minutes). There’s also the option to book this experience in the reverse order.
A unique experience in Hwange National Park awaits you!
