Chilaw - Sigiriya - Kandy - Nuwara Eliya - Mt. Lavinia

You can travel to Sri Lanka all year round. We recommend a trip to the south and west of Sri Lanka from November to March, while the north and east of the country can be traveled from March to November.

You will land at Colombo International Airport and be greeted by a representative of our partner agency in the arrivals hall. The transfer will take you to the first accommodation of your round trip in Chilaw.

The rest of the day is at your leisure. Use the time to recover from your arrival and get used to the climate. A sandy beach and a lagoon surround the hotel. Relax by the lovely outdoor pool and indulge in a soothing spa treatment in the wellness area.

Colombo - Chilaw: 70 km / approx. 2 hours

1 night at Anantaya Resorts & Spa Chilaw**** with breakfast in Standard Room, Chilaw, Sri Lanka

You will start the day with a delicious breakfast before your driver takes you to Sigiriya. On the way you will stop at Dambulla and visit the famous cave temple. Built in the 1st century BC, it is one of the largest and best preserved Buddhist cave temples in the country. Since 1991, it has been on UNESCO’s list of world cultural heritage sites. In the numerous temples there are historical paintings and over 150 Buddha statues. The 14-meter-long sleeping Buddha, carved directly out of the rock with fine decorations of real gold, is impressive.

Afterwards, check into your hotel in Sigiriya.

Chilaw - Sigiriya: 160 km / approx. 3.5 hours

3 nights at Sigiriya Jungles***** with breakfast in Deluxe Room, Sigiriya, Sri Lanka

A highlight of your trip is the visit to the lion fortress of Sigiriya. Even from a distance, the 200 meter high monolith directly catches the eye, because it rises clearly above the jungle and the rice fields. On the rock plateau is a former royal fortress. Numerous frescoes, murals and Buddha statues have been restored, so that today you feel as if you have stepped back in time.

Around noon, you will return to your hotel and learn how different curry dishes are prepared. After you have fortified yourself with this typical delicacy (optional), you will explore the surrounding area by bike or on foot. You will pass lush green rice fields and visit a local temple and the house of a local.

After breakfast at your hotel, a bicycle tour of the medieval town of Polonnaruwa awaits you. The remains of the old royal palace, well-preserved temples, huge Buddha statues and stupas reveal much about the history and remind you of glorious times long gone.

Back at your hotel, freshen up briefly before an exciting safari at Minneriya National Park. The park is particularly popular due to its large elephant population. During the dry season from June to September, up to 200 elephants from the nearby Wasgamuwa National Park migrate to the Minneriya National Park in search of water. If you are lucky, you can marvel at the gentle pachyderms and take great photos of them. It is also home to over 160 species of birds, endemic monkey species, the samba deer and the leopard.

Please note that depending on the season, the safari may also take place at Kaudualla National Park or Hurulu Eco Park.

Sigiriya - Minneriya - Polonnaruwa - Sigiriya: 150km / approx. 3.5 hours

Today is time to pack your bags again. Enjoy the rich breakfast at your hotel before you continue your journey south. Your destination today is the city of Kandy, surrounded by green mountains. In the afternoon, you will take a sightseeing tour in a tuk tuk and get to know local markets and Lake Kandy. At the waterfront, with a little luck, you can observe many animals such as water turtles, snakes, pelicans and other water birds.

Another highlight of your stay is the famous tooth temple, Sri Dalada Mailgawa, which is considered one of the most important places of Buddhism. In a shrine there is the tooth of Buddha. This tooth is revered because of the idea that in it is stored the spiritual power of Buddha. Every year in August, a 10-day festival is held in honor of the sacred tooth. A procession of dancers and drummers accompany elephants carrying the tooth of Buddha through the streets.

Afterwards, end the day with a cultural show. You will listen to traditional music and see typical dances that reflect the diverse culture of the country.

Sigiriya - Kandy: 100 km / approx. 3 hours

1 night at Amaya Hills Hotel**** with breakfast in Superior Room, Kandy, Sri Lanka

Most of your journey today will be by scenic train. In Peradeniya, you will board the train and continue south to Nanu Oya. The journey takes about 2.5 hours and takes you through a fairytale mountain landscape. You will experience how the lush jungle is replaced by coniferous forest and rivers and enjoy glimpses of valleys and gorges. In total, you will overcome an altitude difference of about 1,400 meters. The landscape becomes more and more hilly and the first tea plantations appear. Once on site, you will be greeted by your English-speaking driver-guide and together you will continue your journey to Nuwara Eliya.

On the way, you will visit a tea plantation and its corresponding factory. Here you will learn interesting facts about the production of tea - from the harvest to the aromatic cup of tea. At the end of your tour, you will have the opportunity to buy tea.
