Located in the southern hemisphere, tea time in New Zealand is anti-cyclical to the rest of the world. The tea is harvested during the European winter, so the best time to travel is from November to February - the ideal opportunity to escape the cold season at home.

China, Japan, India - and New Zealand. New Zealand is certainly not one of the first countries that come to mind when one thinks of tea. In fact, tea has only been grown in New Zealand since the 1990s - and only in one tea garden in the entire country, which makes the tea here unique in every way.

Taste the different facets of New Zealand uniqueness with the following tea varieties: No. 650 Zealong Green, No. 655 Zealong Oolong or No. 660 Zealong Black by TeeGschwendner.

After your arrival at the international airport of Auckland, your exciting trip with the rental car starts. Auckland, the largest city in New Zealand, which is also called City of Sails due to the many marinas, invites you to numerous discovery tours at the beginning. Start at Viaduct Harbour to admire the city from the water. The views of the Harbour Bridge and the skyline are just some of the highlights. Stroll along bustling Queen Street to the gigantic Sky Tower, the tallest building in the southern hemisphere: the panorama that awaits you from the viewing platforms promises pure goosebumps. Aotea Square hosts a market for souvenirs, art, fashion and jewelry every Friday and Saturday. In addition, regular open-air concerts and the Christmas market provide a special entertainment. All this makes Aotea Square an absolute favorite meeting place for New Zealanders.

Kerikeri, the largest town in the Bay of Islands, is home to the Kerikeri Mission House, New Zealand's oldest building, and the country's oldest stone building, the Stone Store. The way to the impressive Rainbow Falls leads through a tropical looking jungle and is already an attraction in itself. Once at the falls, depending on the water level, you can refresh yourself in the Rainbow Falls pool or even swim through the falls. An idyllic hiking trail along the shore invites you to extensive hiking.

Today's itinerary takes you to Zealong Tea Estate. New Zealand's only tea garden - incidentally also the tea garden furthest from Germany - is located near Hamilton and was founded by Vincent Chen in 1996. Originally from Taiwan, he brought tea culture from his homeland to New Zealand and has since uncompromisingly followed the path to the perfect cup of tea. On a generous area of 50 hectares, only 20 tons of tea are produced per year, a tiny amount for the area, but unparalleled anywhere in the world!

Learn everything there is to discover about tea growing, processing and the special features of New Zealand, and be amazed at how diverse tea can be: Zealong produces a wide variety of teas from the same plants, including black and green tea.

While you enjoy a cup of Zealong and some delicacies from the award-winning cuisine in the adjoining tea house, you may consider not wanting to return home at all - don't worry, you wouldn't be the first to have such musings in this incomparable corner of the world!

Hot springs, geysers, craters and dazzling sinter terraces will take you to another world, while the smell of sulfur is in the air.

Your journey will take you to Wai-O-Tapu Thermal Wonderland Park, located about 30 km south of Rotorua. Pure fascination: the Lady Knox Geyser shoots a gigantic water fountain high into the air every morning at 10:15 a.m. Other small craters and hot pools in different rock colors await you at every corner. The region also invites outdoor activities thanks to numerous forests and lakes. After a gondola ride up Mt. Ngongotaha, the fascinating panoramic view over the city rounds off the events of the day.

The contrasting landscape is characterized by emerald lakes, desert plateaus, flowering meadows, snow-capped peaks and hot springs. Take a full-day tour, the Tongariro Alpine Crossing, to experience the facets of the region: the trail leads across the slopes of three mountains, past steaming craters, cooled lava flows and smoking springs, flowers, herbs and shrubs that provide a habitat for native birds.

Windy Wellington - the nickname of New Zealand's capital - is no coincidence. Today you will explore the city, which is shaped by wind currents and downdrafts and located on a large natural harbor - called Te Whanganui-a-Tara in Maori language, which translates as "The Great Harbour of Tara". North of the bay are the long sandy beaches of the Kapiti Coast. The Wellington Cable Car offers you fascinating views over the city as well as the harbor on the short route.

In the National Te Papa Museum, you will learn more about nature, history, culture and art of the country in an interactive way. Afterwards, we recommend a delicious coffee on Cuba Street, where you will find numerous cafes, restaurants and second-hand stores.

Once on the South Island, Motueka serves as a starting point for numerous activities. While the town itself is home to a small museum and fine restaurants, the exciting surrounding countryside is the center for growing hops and various fruits such as grapes, apples and kiwis. A walk along the waterfront or a drive to the Riwaka Resurgence are worthwhile activities - after the Riwaka River runs underground through karst caves, the crystal clear water resurfaces at the Resurgence.

The Abel Tasman National Park's diverse landscape allows for a variety of activities. Along the park's coastal strip, you'll find rock formations of granite and marble lining the dense forest of headlands. The crescent-shaped and fairy tale like Te Pukatea Bay, surrounded by golden sand, enchants with a very special charm.
