Description

"Wait a minute, wait a minute, Mister Postman:" - is the perfect song for this extraordinary experience: On the Magic Mail Run mail boat tour, you will accompany the correspondence delivery process in Queen Charlotte Sound from jetty to jetty and bring letters, parcels, packages or other goods to the people who live along the bay in this beautiful, unspoiled place. Get an authentic insight into the remote settlements and enjoy the unique nature during the delivery tour with the mail boat.

Destination

Oceania & South Pacific

  1. New Zealand
  2. South Island New Zealand

Expect an entertaining and unique tour of Queen Charlotte Sound. The New Zealand Post Rural Delivery Service is the only officially licensed boat to deliver mail in the fjord for over 150 years. Today, you have the opportunity to help the skipper deliver mail, groceries and other cargo. Get an authentic glimpse into the daily lives of the residents who live in this secluded spot.

The tour runs daily from Monday to Saturday - but no two days are the same. Since there are always different recipients on the delivery list, the boat always takes a different route. Each mail boat tour is up to 160 kilometers long and the ship stops about 15 times to bring mail bags to shore or to take new ones on board. The skipper provides you with interesting facts about the history of the people living here and of course about the Marlborough Sounds, which Queen Charlotte Sound belongs to. Do you have any questions? Don't hesitate to ask the friendly skipper for more information.

But don't forget to enjoy the beautiful nature around you and take some photos. The Marlborough Sounds provide the perfect backdrop - a maze of small fjords, islands and passages that create an almost unreal scenery.

In summer, the mail boat stops at Historic Ship Cove / Meretoto. The anchorage takes its name from James Cook, who filled up his ship, the Endeavour, with supplies here in January 1770. Here you can explore the beach, which also has the Captain Cook monument and some Maori statues.
