Sri Lanka & Maldives Combination Trip

Our Sri Lanka trip is best year round! If you want to enjoy a beach vacation in Sri Lanka during winter, you should visit the south or west of Sri Lanka, and the east coast during the summer. The best time to travel to the Maldives is between December and April.

After landing at Colombo International Airport, a representative from our partner agency will meet you. They will transfer you to your first accommodation in Negombo.

The rest of the day is free for you to decide! Enjoy a refreshing dip at the hotel pool, stroll along the dreamy beach, or discover seventh heaven with a pampering spa treatment.

A hearty breakfast will give you the energy you need for today’s adventure to Sigiriya! After a four-hour drive, you can look forward to stretching your legs during a bike tour through the charming villages around Lake Kandalama. Bike toward the never-ending landscapes that offer idyllic views of the lake and vast fields. Don’t forget to immerse yourself into the village life through exciting insights.

Today the highlight of your trip awaits at the Lion Fortress of Sigiriya. The 200-meter-high monolith rises clearly above the jungle and rice fields, catching eyes from afar. Both nature and history lovers will get their money’s worth here because of the rocky plateau that once was a former royal fortress. Even today, numerous frescoes, wall paintings, and Buddha statues give an insight into the past.

Next, you will embark on a visit (planned by us) to the much less crowded neighboring rock of Sigirya Rock. From the Pidurangala Rock, you can enjoy an incomparable view of the Sigiriya Rock.

The day has even more in store for you! After a quick refreshment at the hotel, you’ll head over to the Minneriya National Park and meet its large elephant population. Up to 200 elephants migrate from nearby Wasgamuwa National Park to Minneriya National Park during the dry season from June to September in search of water. Marvel at the gentle giants and capture these up-close encounters with your camera! Be sure to also keep your eyes peeled for endemic monkey species, leopards, samba deer, and 160 different bird species.

Depending on the season, the safari can also take place in Kaudualla National Park or Hurulu Eco Park.

Overnight with breakfast in Sigiriya/Dambulla, Sri Lanka

It’s time to pack your bags after breakfast and continue to southern Sri Lanka. Today you’ll visit the city of Kandy and its lush mountain landscapes. During a sightseeing tour, get to know the most beautiful parts of the city. Visit the local markets and take a trip to Kandy Lake, where you can see turtles, snakes, pelicans, and other water birds.

Later in the day, you’ll visit the famous Temple of the Tooth, Sri Dalada Mailgawa, one of the most important places in Buddhism. In the shrine is the tooth of Buddha. Buddhists have always believed that the spiritual power of Buddha resides in it. For this reason, an annual 10-day festival happens in August in honor of the sacred tooth. A procession of dancers and drummers accompany the elephants who parades with Buddha’s tooth through the streets.

Today is a travel day. After breakfast, proceed to Ella via Nuwara Eliya.

On a winding road along evergreen tea plantations, rushing waterfalls, and impressive mountain landscapes, you will drive to the former stronghold of colonial English high society. Nuwara Eliya, the “City of Light,” welcomes its visitors at over 1800 meters above sea level and is home to the world-famous Ceylon tea.

After a stop in Nuwara Eliya and a visit to a tea plantation, you will continue the journey to Ella, a small village reminiscent of Italian towns because of its charming townscape.

A transfer will take you to your hotel, where you will also enjoy a sumptuous dinner in the evening.

Overnight accommodation with breakfast in Ella, Sri Lanka

Continue the adventure to the Indian Ocean. Your destination is the town of Tangalle at the southern tip of Sri Lanka. It’s known for its originality and tranquility.

As you lie beneath a palm tree, listen to the sound of the sea as you relax and look back on your memories in Sri Lanka.

Overnight accommodation with breakfast in Nuwara Eliya, Sri Lanka

Today you’ll drive back to your starting point in Negombo. Listen to the sound of crashing waves as you enjoy a final dinner in Sri Lanka. Optionally, you can also visit the port city of Galle.

The old town is in the very south of the island and situated on a headland surrounded by an old Dutch fort. The massive fortress walls are more than three kilometers long, 350 years old, and made from granite stones and coral.

Another travel day is here! Take an early morning flight from Colombo to Male. From there, you will take a seaplane to your booked beach hotel in the Maldives.
