Destination

Asia

Negombo - Sigiriya - Kandy - Nuwara Eliya - Tissamaharama - Kalutara

You can visit Sri Lanka year-round. We recommend traveling to the south and west of Sri Lanka from November to March and the north and east of the country from March to November.

We recommend an overnight flight to Sri Lanka so that you can travel toward the rising sun in Colombo. After going through customs, your guide will drive you along the palm-lined road to Negombo on the Indian Ocean. Time to relax and acclimate — the rest of the day is at your disposal. Unwind by the pool and soak in the gentle ocean breeze until the stunning sun slowly dips behind the horizon.

Travel time: Colombo Airport - Negombo: 10 km / approx. 20 minutes

1 night with full board in Negombo

After a hearty breakfast, drive to Sigiriya — the heart of the “Golden Triangle” and home of the famous Lion Rock. When you reach your destination in the early afternoon, visit the rock fortress, declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1982.

In the 5th century, natives built a fortress on this vast monolith. You can enjoy an incomparable view of the landscape from the plateau while gaining insight into one of the essential chapters of Sri Lanka’s history.

After soaking in your trip’s first significant highlight, your guide will take you to your hotel and end the day with a delicious dinner.

Travel time: Negombo - Sigiriya: 150 km / approx. 4.5 hours

2 nights with full board in Sigiriya

Are you ready for another adventurous day!? After breakfast, you’ll visit the ancient ruins of Polonnaruwa, the country’s ancient capital. It came to be in the 11th and 12 centuries and was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1982.

The old royal city is protected by the overgrown jungle, boasting an appearance of a forgotten city in the jungle. It casts an enchanting spell on every visitor, creating a unique atmosphere you’ll never forget.

In the afternoon, it’s time for a jeep safari in Kaudulla National Park. The park is famous for its large herds of wild elephants that gather at the edge of the rivers and reservoirs to bathe. Although you’ll mostly find elephants here, keep an eye out for other animals, too, like langurs and macaques. With a bit of luck, you might also catch a glimpse of a sloth or leopard.

Travel time: Sigiriya - Polonnaruwa: 70 km / approx. 1 hour

Travel time: Polonnaruwa - Kaudulla: 40 km / approx. 1.5 hours

Travel time: Kaudulla - Sigiriya: 40 km / approx. 1 hour

How about taking a break by the beach for the next couple of days? A detour from Kandy to the country’s wild east coast is worth the trip in the summer months from June to September. Contact us today, and we will adapt your trip according to your wishes.

Kandy sits amid the surrounding tea plantations and lush green nature. The journey to the holy city in the highlands of Sri Lanka is a spectacle in itself. The winding roads sit 500 meters above sea level and promise numerous photo opportunities.

In the afternoon, you’ll visit Sri Dalada Mailgawa, also known as the Temple of the Tooth, one of the most important Buddhist destinations. Witness a ritual where the most sacred relic, a Buddha’s canine, is unveiled every evening.

Travel time: Sigiriya - Kandy: 95 km / approx. 3 hours

1 night including full board in Kandy

After breakfast, visit the Botanical Garden in Peradeniya. A true paradise opens up on almost 60 hectares with numerous orchids, cacti, and other tropical plants.

A breathtaking drive to Nuwara Eliya follows. On a winding road along evergreen tea plantations, rushing waterfalls and impressive mountain landscapes lead you on a drive to the former stronghold of the colonial English high society. Nuwara Eliya, the “City of Light,” welcomes its visitors at over 1800 meters above sea level and is home to the world famous Ceylon tea.

Enjoy the rest of the afternoon relaxing at your hotel.

1 night with full board in Nuwara Eliya

After breakfast, continue south to Tissamaharama. After checking in at the hotel, a jeep safari in the Udawalawe National Park is on your agenda this afternoon.

The national park is a sanctuary to wildlife that was displaced by constructing the Udawalawe Reservoir on the Walawe River and protecting the reservoir’s catchment area. Udawalawe is a critical habitat for waterbirds, elephants, and crocodiles.

Travel time: Nuwara Eliya - Tissamaharama: 155 km / approx. 5 hours

2 nights with full board in Nuwara Eliya

On your last day in Tissamaharma, your alarm clock will ring early in the morning. It’s worth it, though, because another exciting safari awaits you. Today’s destination: Yala National Park.

Sri Lanka’s most famous national park has the densest leopard population globally. In addition to the wild cats, Yala has other inhabitants to offer: elephants, wild boars, deer, macaques, crocodiles, peacocks, wild buffalo, slots, sambars, mongooses, and porcupines.

After an exciting week with numerous cultural and scenic highlights, as well as fascinating insights into Sri Lanka’s wildlife, it’s time to put your feet up and relax. Enjoy the next few days on the beach and review what you have experienced while the pleasantly cool sea breeze surrounds you.

Travel time: Tissamaharama - Kalutara: 215 km / approx. 3.5 hours

5 nights with full board in Kalutara

The last day of your trip begins today. After breakfast at your hotel, a transfer will take you to Colombo Bandaranaike International Airport for your return flight.

Notes

As part of the “Hello Again!” campaign, the Sri Lankan tourism association created a “bio-bubble” for international visitors, which includes sights and attractions that you can visit again.

The excursions included in our tour have been created and approved in consultation with the Sri Lankan Ministry of Health. When you arrive in Sri Lanka, each visitor receives allocated time slots to visit the sights to minimize the risk of interacting with locals and prevent overcrowding.

According to the current station (April 2021), visitors must present a negative PCR test before entry. In addition, visitors must take up to three PCR tests during the tour, depending on the duration of the trip in the current hotel (up to 5 days: 1 PCR test; 5-13 days: 2 tests; 14+ days: 3 tests).

Should a test prove positive, initial isolation would occur at the hotel and, if necessary, a referral to a private hospital. The costs are covered by your COVID-19 insurance, which was already paid for when the visa was issued.

Currently (April 2021), you may visit only the sights and restaurants selected in advance. Any interaction with the local population is not possible.

You can find further information on the current guidelines here.
